Executive — Headphone Preamp

DIY board pair

A directly coupled headphone amp and line stage: a keep-it-simple output stage optimized for discrete op amps, with a robust dual rail supply behind it. Two boards, through-hole, fully repairable — every part can be replaced.

Linear Power Supply — Executive

The companion supply for the Executive: a dual rail ±15 V supply built on a discrete silicon-carbide rectifier — no bridge module, no switching spikes. 140 × 69 mm, M3 mounting. Sold bare, or bundled with the gain stage board.

Associate Amplifier

A fully DC coupled, variable gain current buffer on a 24 V single rail. Its job is to drop the output impedance of a source so it drives headphones cleanly without loading the source down — no gain sought, no color added.

Signal arrives at J1, passes the volume pot and a simple gain stage built around a dual JFET op-amp; a rail splitter creates the virtual ground and an on-board regulator holds the supply at +18 V. Output leaves on two terminal blocks.

Parker

Mechanical engineer, cyclist, mixologist — and, less obviously, an audio engineer with roots in the New York audio scene. Parker came up at a few audio companies before SystemDump, with years of electronics repair, theory and manufacturing behind the boards you see here. Steve Guttenberg interviewed him back in 2018, long before any of this shipped — video 1, video 2.

He is very much by the book. There is a series of standards and procedures, and a version 1 does not go out the door just because it works: the Associate was a small indie project from 2024, built point-to-point, re-built with a revised power supply, tested, and only then laid out as a PCB and released in 2026. That is why it took so long, and why the boards are the way they are.

Asked what else he does with the time, the answer on record is hot dogs.

Design notes

The boards take their cue from the hand-drawn traces of vintage audio equipment — copper laid out by eye and by hand, with the curves and sweeps that came before autorouters, and a silkscreen you can read across the room. The circuits are new; the way they look on the board is deliberately old.
